Ashman Ridge Ski Area

Ashman Pole

The terrain found at Ashman Ridge varies widely, and consistently gets the most frequent snow in the valley. Located approximately an hours drive west of Smithers, the terrain is most frequently accessed by snowmobile. The BBSS has pursued and obtained a License of Occupation from the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development for this area, allowing a small "cabin" to be inhabited by respectful users.

Directions: Out of Smithers on Hudson Bay Mountain Rd., turn left onto McDonnell Lake Road at approximately 13km, continue down McDonnell Lake Road to the 39km marker and continue to the right up the Cable FSR. These roads are unmaintained in the winter and will likely require a snowmobile.

Cabin: The BBSS was lucky enough to receive a donated travel trailer named "the Skylark" which now serves a more permanent role as basecamp. A new roof was placed on this trailer in 2018, and facilities include wood stove, firewood, basic kitchen cookware, small white gas stove (supply your own white-gas), and approximately four places for a thermarest. Please respect this wonderful place, find booking instructions below.

Geo-Referenced Maps:

BBSS recommends using a GPS enabled app, such as Avenza Maps if you are unfamiliar with our terrain. The maps below can be viewed in standard PDF format and allow for an application such as Avenza to show you were you are.
